Black cherry trees are typically grown as ornamental plants, but they can bear fruit when they reach a certain age.
Black cherry trees will produce fruit when they are between 5 and 10 years old.
The black cherry tree is native to China, Japan, and Korea. It grows best in U.S. Department of Agriculture hardiness zones 5 through 8, where it will produce a small, sweet fruit that is eaten fresh or used for jams, jellies, and pies.
The black cherry tree grows at an average rate of 1 foot per year for the first 4 years after planting, then slows down to about 2 feet per year until maturity around 20 years old. When mature it can grow up to 30 feet tall with a spread of 15 feet wide.
In fall the leaf color is red-orange with yellow edges; in summer, the leaves are dark green on top with paler green underneath. The bark is grayish brown when young but changes to grayish white as it ages—sometimes developing cracks that may contain insects or other animals living inside them!
Once order is placed it can NOT be canceled.
